We’d been talking about getting a cat for the last couple years, but we told the kids we needed a bigger house for them. At that point, we hadn't decided whether they'd be indoor/outdoor cats or just indoor. So the time had finally come; we had a house, now where were our kittens?
Isaac's birthday was the perfect excuse to adopt our kittens. We got two little boys so they'd have company when we were out. In October, no one was selling or giving away solid black cats and we'd decided not to get any long hair or female cats due to our experiences with their particular dispositions. Furthermore, it was surprisingly hard to find a pet store, let alone one that sold kittens. But the humane society was full of darling little kittens just waiting to be adopted. The first time I tried taking the kids there, I could barely visit with the cats because
the kids were taking up all my attention to keep on a leash, and then Isaac threw up. So we went a few days later when Rex could accompany me and it went a whole lot better. We couldn't believe how long the adoption process was or how expensive they were, but in the end, we got a couple of wonderful kittens who we named Samurai and Ninja.
James is pretty good with them if he is not too hyper that he scares them. Megan was scared of them at first but has become quite a good little mommy to them. Isaac is still learning not to choke them or beat them to death; he loves them a little too hard.
They are so cute and innocent looking. But watch out! Samurai and Ninja are fitting names. When they first came home with us, Samurai was so well behaved and took all the hard loving the kids dealt him while Ninja kept getting into things he wasn't supposed to and high-tailed it when he saw the kids. They've switched roles; it is Samurai who leads the way in tearing down the Christmas tree, climbs up on the table and knocks over the flower vase (every day!), and can't seem to keep his claws sheathed when jumping up onto people's laps; it is Samurai now who is the hyper one. Spraying them with the squirt bottle, using loud claps or scolding doesn't seem to help them learn the rules. What am I supposed to do? They are worse than the kids sometimes!
