Zumba not what I was expecting

At Christmastime, the Book of Free was selling for $50, containing lots of coupons like the Entertainment Book, except there was no purchase (at all) required. However, when I flipped through it, most of the coupons were only valid Sunday thru Thursday, during work hours. So I passed. But when it went on sale for $25 through Groupon, I went ahead and bought it.

One of the coupons was for 1 month free family membership at YMCA (a $95 value). If I'd known it was in there last month, I would have redeemed it so I could try the aerobics classes or treadmill (yuck) during those cold/rainy days. I discovered it a few days before it expired and redeemed it for March.

This morning, it was another drizzly day, so I went to the Y to try out their Zumba class. One of the women I knew from church was the substitute instructor, and 2 other women from the ward were there too. I'd been meaning to try Zumba since the whole craze started. After all, I love to dance, and I've wanted to try Latin for a long time.

Well, I was extremely disappointed. The music was not even Latin music but Top 40 Pop/Contemporary. There were very few Latin-ish moves. Most of it was just regular aerobics which I hate. (I am terrible at memorizing routines, and I get flustered and lost. It requires too much thinking; when I dance or run or do any other kind of physical activity, I empty my mind and enjoy myself, but I can't do that with choreography.) It was a far cry from the Cuban Motion I want to learn and master. To me, it was a white-person's version of "Latin" aerobic line dancing. I don't understand what all the hype is about.
