The day before Easter, a woman from church had organized an Easter egg hunt for the kids. I’d previously dropped off 3 dozen candy-filled eggs at her house and she had scattered them around at the elementary school playground. It was freezing (literally) but the kids were so excited that they didn’t complain about being cold. They loved the hunt and were excited to get so much candy. (I think the cold weather scared off most people because there weren't very many families who participated.) The next morning, instead of having an egg hunt, we set out an Easter basket with candy-filled eggs. We had expected them to bypass their breakfast and eat lots of candy before we got up, but they didn’t! In fact, they waited for us to get up before asking to delve into their baskets! We also dyed eggs the day before and had a lesson for FHE about the real Easter story, during which James grew concerned because he actually understood that mean people hurt and killed Jesus. (But I don't think he was quite able to grasp that he rose from the dead and lives today and that we will live again too after we die. But we tried.)
