We went to San Antonio a few weeks ago when Rex had 2 more job fairs to attend. He was able to interview with a few schools, but was somewhat discouraged with the sentiment all the schools had: don't call us; we'll call you; we don't have any positions open yet as teachers have till July 13th to renew their contracts. It was also frustrating being told by everyone from principals to passers-by that since Rex was male and going for elementary rather than secondary positions, he'd be snatched up in a heartbeat. But those principals weren't snatching him up....
But it was a great trip, despite the long drive, the lack of sleep, and so many unknown variables. We did some house hunting and figured out what we wanted in a home. And we ate some quality Mexican food. But more importantly, the kids got to meet and play with all their cousins (at least the ones in Texas). We celebrated Megan's birthday while we were there. The kids loved sharing rooms with their cousins and stayed up super late every night. Then one night, I decided to put Megan in the babies' room so she could get to sleep in a quiet room only to find out that that night Isaac and Stephen happened to form a bond and kept screaching and jabbering for a couple hours. To my astonishment, the older kids had conked out so I put the frustrated, teary-eyed Megan back in the other room.
It was a sorrowful parting. Megan and especially James cried when they had to leave Bryan and Patrick behind. (They were also really emotional from being so tired.) Even I almost cried when we waved goodbye to the girls. Isaac kept asking for his Baby Doll, referring to Stephan (although he calls all babies "Baby Doll"). And every day since, they've been asking if we could go to Texas now. Even James prays now to go to Texas right now.
