I got a few party supplies from freecycle and I bought a couple items from Party City. (The trip to Party City was more for getting ideas and for getting James excited about his party since he was upset the party was a few days after his birthday.) Rex had a few vintage Star Wars posters and the soundtrack from one of the movies. I put up the traditional streamers and balloons (left over from last year). And I really outdid myself on the cake. As you will see below, I made a chocolate 3D R2-D2 cake. The kids played with balloons (initially, my idea was to use the force to levitate the balloons). My kids always beg for a pinata, but I hate spending $20 on something you're going to destroy and throw most of the candy out because the kids don't like the cheap kind. So, in tradition of parties my mom had for us, we did a candy hunt instead. I think it went as well as, or better than, a pinata. But most of the party was just free play. It worked well.
As always, I am super grateful to have cousins nearby. If not, we wouldn't have anyone to celebrate with. Thanks again for making it a memorable event for my child.
