Pumpkin Patch

The Pumpkin Patch at Love Creek Orchards in Medina, TX was named the Best Pumpkin Patch in Central Texas. Despite the cost and the hour-long drive, we made that our next outing for this past Special Occasion "Rex Weekend". Despite the fact that it was kind of a lot of money, and we got rained on a bit and the kids didn't really care for most of the free activities, and they cried/fought on the long drive back, I'm glad we went.

THIS is the Rex I remember!




They had piles of overpriced pumpkins that made great picture taking opportunities.


They had a cute little hay bale maze.


They had small crosses in one section with lots of boxes of old clothes to be used for Scarecrow Dressing.


The kids' favorite part was the apple barrel ride. (Adults were permitted, but ride at your own risk. The seats were not big enough for adult rears.)

The Lakota Indians of South Dakota shared a bit of their culture with a real tee-pee and an authentic dance.

In addition to these activities, there were other activities the kids weren't interested in and/or cost more money than they were worth. They had a petting zoo area (feed cost $1/cup), pony rides ($6/kid), interactive music theater thing (free), puppet show (free), face painting ($3/kid -- I later went to the store and bought a face painting kit for $6 and painted both Megan and Isaac's faces at home), paint-your-pumpkin ($$), and sand art ($3/bottle) lots of carnival-type food stands. We found it interesting that the kids whined about being bored but then on the way home said they had a great time. They DID enjoy the activities pictured above.

After the Pumpkin Patch, we went to the Apple Store that Medina is known for. We bought some of their yummy treats and an additional Big Tooth Maple tree for the backyard (the only place that sells them).
