Health Fair

Last Saturday, we went to a Health Fair on the other side of town. James had brought home a flyer from school about the event but it looked like we were one of the few that actually took advantage of it. Maybe the problem was that it fell on Mother’s Day and Graduation weekend. Whatever the case, it was wonderful for us! I couldn’t find the location when we went in the morning but I tried again after their nap once we figured out it was on the other side of the freeway. (I didn’t know there was anything on the other side of the freeway, but apparently it’s a relatively new development over there.) The event was held at the HealthPlex and had tents with booths with people taking blood pressure, measuring BMI, handing out info, and a bunch of other free health services, almost all of which had packed up and left by the time we got there. (Rex picked up a bunch of free toothbrushes -- more free stuff! I'm all about free.)
The even was from 10am-3pm, and we got there at 2pm. It also featured demonstrations such as martial arts, fencing, Irish dancing, and more, but the only thing left when we got there was a singer who was pretty good but had no audience. (There were probably about 10 other people, including children that were there when we got there.) The main attractions for which we came, however, were still there: inflatable obstacle courses and slides, a moon bounce, a rock climbing wall (which Rex and I would have liked to try if we didn’t have the kids), and a bunch of little “rollerbikes” (kind of like the “turtles” I remember from Roller Skate Land when I was a kid). Those rollerbikes were very popular so it was a good thing there wasn’t very many other people there. James played on that the majority of the time. Isaac loved them too, but he was too small so I had to ride it with him. Megan was content just to watch James do everything. I even convinced Rex to try the Dance, Dance Revolution game but it wasn’t working anymore when we tried to do it. The kids bellyached about having to leave when the event was over but everyone was packing up before it was even officially over as it was super slow. But it had been worth the second trip because the kids really enjoyed it and we had the run of the place.

Martha had seen her nephews working up a sweat playing DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) and thought it was great, so some time ago we got an old Playstation 1 for something like $20 off a classified ad, and ordered DDR with the pads on ebay, and Martha has many times done that for her daily exercise.
