Who cares about Sweet Sixteen! My teenage daughter just turned EIGHT and is on top of the world! As far as she is concerned, 8 is the magic age! Today Megan got baptized by her dad. It was a very special day and everyone who came made it that much more special for her. (As an added bonus, her baptism falls on Father's Day weekend.)
She had been counting down the days till she could go to Activity Day Girls. She was over the moon about her first official activity night. (Now that she is involved in that and James will be going into 11-year-old Scouts, we will do Wednesday night scouts for him again and hope it works out better now that he's more mature. Besides, I am planning to incorporate scouting into his homeschool curriculum.) She is already excited to start working on her Faith in God booklet from Primary. Her turning 8 is a whole lot different than when James turned 8; it's a huge deal for her.
Honestly, though, I think she is most excited about graduating out of her booster seat. When she was 6, she said goodbye to it, but then they changed the law and she had to get reacquainted with it. Now she has shed the seat for good. (But she is still afraid they'll change the law again.) What's more, she is enjoying sharing the front seat privilege with James. She gets shotgun on T/Th/Sat and James get it M/W/F. Yeah, yeah, the recommendation is 4'9" to get out of a booster and 12 years old to sit in the front, but that's not the LAW. It is better for my sanity and the safety of my driving if I go by the law rather than the recommendation. And you already know what I think about parents being given their natural autonomy for child-rearing....
