The curtains were desperately needed when she'd finally completely broke the shade that covered her window; she'd been shredding it for months (she used to break the blinds in her room in OK too) when she peeked outside when she should have been sleeping. Then, after a couple of tantrums where she'd ripped them down, it would no longer retract. I'm actually very proud of my curtains, backed with black-out fabric, topped with a scalloped valance with lace trim, complete with purple sheers to keep prying eyes from seeing in during the daytime. (The light switches in this house are too high for her to reach and she is scared of going into a dark room, but I didn't like the idea of having her curtains wide open for anyone to see my little girl changing her clothes, especially now that the oak tree is no longer outside her window.)
All that is left is the flooring, but we won't be putting in carpet. Someday when we have the money and all our more pressing projects are finished, we'll put bamboo flooring upstairs too.
