Recycling Soap

I always hated throwing out bar soap slivers. Putting them on top of the new bar of soap never worked. And I didn't like the idea of putting a sliver inside a sponge or rag for reuse because I like using the actual bar of soap. So after some research and trial and error, here is the best recipe for recycling your bar soap. It's obviously not as good as the original bar, but it's not bad and it sure beats throwing away the soap. (I discovered this when we were living on student loans and I was pinching pennies as much as possible.)

Take 3 to 4 ozs of soap remnants, in slivers or grated (I cut them up tiny and then put them in the food processor), add 4 to 5 tablespoons of water, put in microwavable dish, and heat for 2 or 3 min, until the soap is melted. Be careful not to let the soap foam over the edge of the dish, you will need to stir it a few as it is heating. After it is foamy and thick, pour into wax-paper-lined soap dish for a mold. It takes a few days to a week to be firm enough to use and I found it helpful to flip it every day to aid in drying.
