Isaac turns 1 this Tuesday so we celebrated his birthday this morning. The poor child will probably be cursed with Halloween theme parties and parafanalia for his birthday his whole life. But it was the perfect excuse to try out this cute pumpkin cake idea. I made 2 bunt cakes, slapped them together, slathered it with orange frosting, painted on a face, and topped it with an upside-down ice cream cone. I thought it turned out pretty cute. James, the Halloween-fan, just loved it! But Isaac didn't much care for it -- maybe because it wasn't chocolate! He did however, enjoy getting sung to. And he certainly loved his birthday present. Rocking horses are expensive so I checked eBay but found that it too was more than I wanted to spend, even though I saw the perfect one there. Then, on the spur of the moment, I pulled into a children's consignment place and checked their ride-on toys and, lo-and-behold, the very one I wanted from eBay was there! And at such a great price! It was a hit with both Isaac and Megan. James was sorely disappointed we told him he was too big to ride it. (We didn't want him breaking it.)
