James figured out how to snap his fingers and he is so proud of himself that he shows everyone he sees. He is so happy now that he can do the snapping part of the song “Days of the Week” (to the tune of “Adams’ Family”).
We were very pleased to find out that James got Student of the Week at school. Each teacher can give out two of these awards every week for any reason they want. He got a certificate that we posted on the refrigerator. And there was a note attached that said it was “For James’ enthusiastic behavior, always excited to come to school with a smile.” That’s James alright!
After much role playing and rehearsing, James is now able to get himself and his sister up in the morning all by himself, go to the bathroom, get his breakfast that we have prepared for him the night before, turn on a movie we have cued up, and even (sometimes) get himself dressed -- all without disturbing his parents. (Now, if only we could get them to sleep in till 6am; these 4am mornings are rough!)
I love to see his face light up when I tell him how proud I am of him or that he did a good job. And he gives us lots of opportunity to do so.
