I am so sick of my kids whining and fussing about dinner. Over and over again, I tell them that if they don't like it, they can get down after trying one bite of each thing, but they better not say how gross it is; they can hate it all they want, but I don't want to hear it. Of course, they are usually incapable of doing this, and I often use the harsh comparison of saying that when they tell me the dinner I made is gross, it's like me telling them their artwork is ugly. I blew up at James yesterday because he was acting like I was forcing him to take a bite of vomit. When he left the table, he made a list of "Mom's best cooking":

1. brocklee
2. masht patatos
3. green beens
4. hot dogs
5. cickin
6. bred
7. biscits
8. silly spagete

I was surprised he included green beans because he hasn't touched them in 6 months. Broccoli has always been one of his favorites (he loves vegetables and hates fruit; weird) but I was surpised PB&J was not on the top of the list.

Anyway, the effort he put into his apology made me smile and I gave him a hug, thanked him, and posted it on the fridge "to remind me to make more of these for him" or, rather, to remind him that he likes those things (when he's in a good mood).

I feel your pain... Except that my problem comes from my husband and step-son not liking any vegetable that is not potatoes, canned corn or canned green beans. I can only take SO MUCH of those two mushy canned things and potatoes can only be cooked so many different ways. I have always been able to get my step-daughter to eat any vegetable I put on the table, thank heavens! My husband will actually make faces and complain if I make him eat other veggies, especially asparagus! I have been able to get him to somewhat enjoy salad though. I miss the long warm days of California when my dad would bring loads of fresh fruits and veggies home from the local growers... Those were the days!!! Julie, you are awesome! Love ya!
