Hooray! I finally convinced Rex to call the Union he belongs to for advice regarding the question "have you ever resigned in lieu of non-renewal?" on his teaching applications. And the legal advice is that he did not have to say yes to that question because he resigned so far in advance and the district never had anything in writing and never submitted anything to the superintendent and never actually started the process of non-renewal. Therefore, he never technically resigned in lieu of non-renewal. That is a load off, since most of the 20+ reasons for non-renewal are really really bad. (The only reason they would have had for non-renewal was too many poor performance appraisals, which is piddly compared to all the other horrible reasons. To have to say non-renewal pretty much says he did some pretty bad things and no one would want to touch him with a 10-foot pole.) So I modified all the applications. (Unfortunately, most of them ask if he's ever had an unsatisfactory appraisal, but from the looks of it, how could anyone NOT have had at least one, especially if a new teacher has an observation/appraisal every 2 weeks?)
8 applications down. I'm not sure how many more to go. Then follow-ups at individual schools and the one and only job fair for everyone in the county in June. Keep your fingers crossed.
