I love James

I don't think anyone could have as sweet and sensitive a boy as I do. Apparently, certain wonderful characteristics James possesses are hallmarks of Aspergers: he is 100% honest and 0% malicious. When he appears to be lying, he is only telling the truth as he knows it, even if it is convoluted; he will even incriminate himself. If he hurts someone or does something mean, it was completely reactionary; he might punch a kid...if he was being bullied, or he might pull his sister's hair...if she antagonized him, or he might scream at someone for cheating or doing something wrong...because he lacks theory of mind and doesn't understand others have different ways of doing things. But, ironically, James is empathetic. A melancholy song, a touching movie scene, a person crying, someone else being picked on...all evoke an intense emotional reaction that makes him cry uncontrollably. He loves to please and praise goes farther with him than anyone I've ever met. He feels incredibly remorseful when he learns that his actions have unintentionally hurt someone else.
