Flattering Exasperating Comments

You know how frustrated I was with people commenting on how I looked like I was 18 or 20 all the time? (See post from 2007) Or how embarrassing it was to be mistaken for Rex's daughter?

Well, I've finally gotten over it. It's just a fact of life. It's less annoying than people finding my name "Julie Roberts" amusingly akin to the actress. So what if they are thinking that I got knocked up in high school or that I'm ditching class or that my husband is my dad. They can go ahead and think what they want to think. And I can try to be flattered by my youthful genes.

So now that I'm over it, something else has come up. It really wouldn't bother me if Rex hadn't point out what they were really saying. I swear, at least once a day, anywhere I go -- the library, the grocery store, out dancing, the gas station -- a man will say to me:

"Hey, you look familiar." Or "You look exactly like my cousin." OR "Have we met somewhere?"

And Rex says it's the universal pick-up line. Are you serious?

When we went to the Green Fest a few weeks ago, 2 different men said this to me within 15 minutes of each other while Rex was about 3 or 4 feet away from me with the kids. I thought it was a weird coincidence. But after we debated whether "you look familiar" was a pick-up line or not, I started getting asked this question almost every day. Maybe people had been saying this to me all the time and I never noticed it before. Well, I'm noticing it now, and it's weird.

Do I seriously look like everyone's cousin? Or are these men honestly using it as a pick-up line? If it is the latter, I think I'd rather just stick with the little girl comments!

Rex just smiles and says "I told you so." No. I'm not ready to let him win this argument. I just have a face that looks like everyone else's. That's how I prefer to see it.
