For months, I've been hoping my neighbor would come over with her semi-yearly boxes of hand-me-downs. Whenever she cleans out her closets, I get lots of cute (expensive) clothes from her and her daughter, and even a few from her husband. A year ago, Rex took James to a birthday party for a neighbor boy which was held at The Jumping Place in the mall. My neighbor, who had dropped off her daughter and gone shopping, returned to show off her purchases. Rex told me he was thinking "oh, that will look great on my wife next year." This woman goes through clothes like tubes of toothpaste. I loved it!
Alas, I think the reason she hasn't come by with those boxes of clothes is because she left her husband. I'm not really sure because I don't keep tabs on them and we don't really socialize. And her daughter was always shipped off to after-school-day-care, even when one of her parents was at home. But ever since she got her high-fa-luting job at that travel agency that caters only to rich people, she's been either at work or traveling herself. But one of their 3 cars hasn't been seen in forever, and although I only saw her daughter playing outside on the weekends before (because of day-care), I don't usually see her then anymore either. Her husband, like most men in Texas, likes to hang out in the garage and smoke and drink and hang out with the other drinkers on our cul-de-sac, but I haven't seen his wife out with him in the last 6 to 9 months. Like I said, we don't socialize with them so I really don't know. I suppose if I did, I'd hear the neighborhood gossip and know for sure. The only real way to know is to ask her husband why I haven't seen her lately, but I certainly don't want to experience that awkward conversation!
So I guess I can't count on any nice hand-me-downs from her anymore. Ah, well, I guess it was pretty selfish of me anyway.
