The Hunt Continues

It is Job Fair Season, which is kind of like pre-season for finding a teaching position. Very little hiring gets done right now, but there are some vacancies posted. The real hiring season is midsummer since teachers generally have till July to submit their contract resignations or renewals. And then there is the annual mad dash and musical chairs.

But for now, I've been updating all Rex's applications to reflect his increased marketability now that he is certified to teach up to 8th grade. And, as always, I have been keeping tabs on all the vacancies I can find all over the state, but mostly zeroing in on San Antonio, Austin, Houston and everything in between those places.

That includes Job Fairs which started late March. Most of them seem to be in April, all on the same days/times, so he has to be selective in which ones to go to. I know it's emotionally exhausting for him, but it makes me feel productive and gives me hope for the 2010-2011 school year.

In the meantime, as you know, Rex won his unemployment appeal so he is now recieving an income. It made us angry to find out that they are trying to appeal the appeal, but we are 99.9% sure they will lose based on the sited laws on their determination letter. We figure it is HR's job to exhaust all posibilities and so their lawyer had to file another appeal even if she knew she'd lose. They didn't freeze the money, so we feel pretty safe.
